Going to prom is a rite of passage for high school students, even those who turn out to be lawyers. Special needs students, however, typically don’t get to go. Rob Shield, a partner attorney with Wilson Turner Kosmo LLP, and his wife Cheryl, changed that again this year. Hundreds of special needs students — or honored guests as they are called at the prom — were paired with a high school student buddy (not special needs). The honored guests are completely decked out, they then get into limos and are driven around the neighborhood, before walking down a red carpet complete with paparazzi and into the prom for dinner, dancing, photos and even a take home gift bag. The Shields put the entire event together, making a huge positive impact on our community.
